Yahoo maps is USA first and will mostly find a hick-town in USA, not a world class city?

Yahoo maps is a USA first product and will mostly find a hick-town in USA, not a world class city?

Does this bug any one?

Searching Yahoo maps using Yahoo! search

http://search.yahoo.com/

Try searching and see... perhaps you can add to the list.

yahoo maps Paris = hick-town in USA

yahoo maps Moscow = hick-town in USA

yahoo maps Rome = hick-town in USA

yahoo maps Beijing = information on China but no map (except for a hick-town in USA)

yahoo maps Constantinople = information on Ancient Rome but no map (except for a hick-town in USA)

yahoo maps Frankfurt = information on Germany vacations tours but no map (except for a hick-town in USA)

They were a bit better on Canada ~

yahoo maps Toronto = Toronto Ontario

yahoo maps London = London Ontario Canada (a hick town in Canada, Not England)

Seriously does the USA know the rest of the planet exists?

Sort of. But hey, hick is a strong word.

Also, your avatar is the first avatar I've seen with glasses on! Cool. ^_^
Reply:As someone else has noted, it's not Yahoo! maps that the issue - if you go to http://maps.yahoo.com/beta , it jumps to major international cities you expect right away - and many minor ones. While it should be fixed, not a whole lot of people go to the cities via the search box. Report It

Reply:Yahoo is an AMERICAN company. Are they supposed to start out with a map of Africa? Does this make any sense? Maybe there is no market for other countries, or maybe they did not get to them yet.

If you check Yahoo maps Beta, their new and improved map, you will find most other countries have all of their information.

Do a little research before you criticize, you look like a fool.

My yahoo messenger cannot stay connected?

My yahoo messenger cannot stay connected - it repeatedly logs in and out and I have no problem with any other internet tools My internet upload and download speed is very high Ive been dealing with this since last march and I knows that log thing in messenger doesnt work, nothing ever worked, Ive done every thing yahoo techs said, such as Yahoo settings, sending that windows doc file, Im only behind a firewall for the router but that setting is specified with yahoo My yahoo accounts are capricorn10123 and braxious101 when will this problem be fixed? Im very frustrated with yahoo as many users are, as well as annoyed as well as My fairly large contact lists, how come a user of Yahoo messenger can talked directly one on one with a yahoo tech wouldnt that be soo much easier? how come Im never notified that My complaints are being worked out let alone being received due to all this I lose some messages as well as not being able to send them does Id prefer todo eveything by e-mail as Im not convinced the yahoo logging under help in the messengers bar actually works like yahoo says it does does Yahoo need more techs in the area of Yarmouth Nova Scotia Canada? I ask this because Yahoo isnt very good in this area if Yahoo techs are needed what does a person need to be a tech for yahoo? I maybe interested in a job with yahoo to better help yahoo in this area I cant be reached at geowhy@hotmail.com and My name is Geoff Whynot hope to hear from Yahoo soon

My yahoo messenger cannot stay connected?

I was answering with sarcasm, you knobs. Give me a break - gaming for

points? Points that do what exactly? You people take this thing way too

seriously. By your logic, pretty much any answer I give is gaming for

points. Since the points mean nothing, the whole system is based around

gaming for points. But keep your two lousy points - I'll go be

sarcastic on another stupid question and get them back again.

Reply:They're trying to be efficient, but it is extremely impersonal. I got one today just like that, but I have no idea what it means - if they're going to get back to me or if it goes in the gutter or what. From what I've heard, though, they never get back to you. :(

At least they do take off a lot of the junk from the site along with it.

Yahoo mail lottery scam?
Sorry, it's a scam. It is impossible to win a lottery if you did not buy a ticket. There is no such thing as a lottery of email addresses or Yahoo! Messenger ID's... and Yahoo! doesn't run any lotteries.

See the links below for a lot more info on Yahoo Lottery scam emails...
Reply:It is a scam! There is no Overseas Lottery International, YAHOO %26amp; MSN Lotteries, Yahoo online dept., UK (United Kingdom) Lottery, Netherlands Lottery, British Lottery, Thunderball Online Lottery in the UK, Australian Lottery, Spanish Lottery, Yahoo Lottery Microsoft Lottery (emmulating from the UK or anywhere else) or any other form of lottery you can win without buying a ticket. While some people might only copy and paste such email to their answer with a brief take on it, I will go into detail because I'm tired of this trash, as several of my friends have lost their a$$es to this scam. This is about as far away from legitimate as anything can get, whether it be a contest, promotion, or whatever.

There exists a certain form of immoral degenerate that trolls the internet searching for suckers who believe that they have gotten very lucky and won a lottery which they have never entered. They will probably entice you to send an advance fee to claim your non-existant winnings and if you do send this money, you can kiss it goodbye. The money will likely be en-route to Nigeria, a cesspool of fraud that has been the center of these types of fraud over the last few decades.

The best thing to do is to delete such emails immediately and to never reply to them. If you even reply, you risk having your email inbox flooded. If you call these people, expect to be harrassed over the phone at all hours of the night! In some cases, people who travel to claim their winnings in Nigeria are taken hostage, and in worse-case scenarios are killed when whoever is paying ransom payments exhausts their money supply. If anything online sounds to good to be true it always is buddy.

By the way, I have kind of become an anti-scam activists due to the fact that I have many friends who have had their identities and life savings stolen from them via these methods.

This is simply advance fee fraud (a prevalent type of fraud which continously asks for money to cover unforseen expenses) and is intended to drain your bank account, promising money that simply does not exist. Hopefully, this answers your question.

If you have any more questions, do a yahoo search on lottery scams, nigeria 419 scams, internet fraud, or advance fee fraud. You can also read more about this at www.secretservice.gov and www.419eater.com!

If you have lost money you should report it to the U.S. Secret Service at www.secretservice.gov

Now you know the basics of Advance Fee Fraud, a multi-million dollar industry that costs honest people their life savings everyday. Be happy you weren't duped by this scam!

I hope this is helpful, because I could sure use a best answer! I would appreciate it!
Reply:Look at the questions I have answered in gambling on this site in my info. There are so many winners there could not be enough money to pay them all. There is no International Lottery. This is a Nigeria scam. Yahoo/MSN, U.K. and Australian lotteries, football lotteries from the same counties, Global-Link, World Poverty, Microsoft, Free Lotto, which now seems to have it's own people answering gambling questions on this site claiming they have won which is a total lie, and hundreds more. I am a retired Police Officer that has years of experience investigating Internet scams and frauds. This is an old one. The common link to them getting your email is on line surveys. Yahoo does not give it's stock holders money away nor does it give it's email subscribers address's to lotteries. The only way to win in a lottery is to buy a ticket, if you didn't you could not possibly win. Here is the website of the 17 nation law enforcement task force that investigates cross border Internet crime. You may file a complaint there. www.econsumer.gov. Also go to www.ripoffreport.com and browse complaints and you will find many having the same doubts as yourself about these scams. Below is a typical scam and how they work it. They just go under a thousand different names. They are asking you to send a prepayment to collect your winnings and they want you to send it by a money wire service. Lotteries do not just pick your name out of thin air, and just so happen to have your email also. No Internet service provider gives their email list out to lotteries. If you did not pay to play you could not possibly win.

recieved letter of winning $65000.00 Pacific Player International lotteries, please contact claims agent miss linda strong at 204-951-7582. Second letter came with a check for the amount of $2,470.00 To deposited in my bank account for processing fee,a week later check cleared my bank. I contacted my claims agent over the phone she advise me to wire the balance of $2,341.00 to a Mr Edward Culwell in New York,New York.I called miss linda strong to advise her of the western union confirmation number,to date can not get in touch with linda strong just her voice mail, I know now that it was all a RIP-OFF and now Iam in the hole with $2,470.00 with my bank.... Please send HELP... THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Reply:Scam.
Reply:Fraudulent (Scam) Emails – what to do first

Lottery scam (fraudulent) emails are increasing at an alarming rate.

Scam emails try to persuade the email receiver to submit personal information or to part with money as an up front payment in order to release a winning lottery prize.

As a general rule, if you have not purchased a ticket for the UK National Lottery, you won’t have won a prize, and you should treat the email with absolute caution.

The following points are some things to look for in order to identify a fraudulent email:

* If the email says ‘Winning Notification’ or ‘Lottery Sweep Stake’ in the text, the email you’ve received is not from UK National Lottery;

* We don’t tell players how much they've won in an email; and

* We don’t ask for any Player information like name, address or bank details on an email.

NEVER open emails from these people with attachments, they can get the personal information off your computer!! Including bank account information as well as credit cards. If your winnings show to be in another country always remember only residents of that country are qualified to win. Hope this helps!
Reply:This is known as phishing. If you contact them, you will be giving them your personal info, and it will only be a matter of time that they will be asking for bank account info. 1.3 billion? That's absolutely ridiculous, nobody just hands out lottery prizes to people who never entered. Check out these sites, but I would just delete the email, or mark it as spam.

In Accordance with the Yahoo! 2006 Mail Grant Terms of Service (TOS) Financial Obligations (Section 3), Asian and African winners will now be required by Yahoo! to make the 5% (five percent) United Nations (UN) charitable donation from their prize wins, before the shipment and delivery of prize to winner's address.

Procedures were changed due to difficulties experienced (during past years) with winners in these locations (Asia %26amp; Africa) fulfilling their Financial Obligations to the designated UN accredited Charity Organizations after prizes were delivered. Yahoo! Inc. is sorry for any inconvenience imposed on affected winners of this year's Anniversary Programme.

Yahoo! 2006 Mail Grant Prize WinnersYahoo! Netrospective: Is this mail prize grant authentic?
Good gravy no. It's a total crock. Delete and move on.
Reply:Don't just check the "From:" address, you can change that as easily as you can type any email address into it. The beginning of the email sounds good, I like the fact that it says "contact Yahoo! NOW", then I scrolled down and warning bells screamed in my head when I saw the address being in Nigeria.

The first advice I had before even reading the email is to contact Yahoo! and confirm it. Don't use the contact details in the email, but the addresses from Yahoo! Mail help.

As it is, reading the full email, I think this is a scam, mainly because of the various inconsistencies, like the email address, the fact that Kano, Nigeria dialling code is 64, not 802 (and none of the cities in Nigeria has 3-digit area code), and nothing in that Netrospective page that hinted on Yahoo! giving out Mail Grant Prize (I don't see why Yahoo! would not be promoting something like this).

Um, and a word of advice, if that S'porean address and phone number are really yours, I suggest you censor it with 'xxxx' or something.
Reply:The #1 way to check is to see the email address that sent it. Just make sure that is _____@yahoo.com

If is anything other that yahoo.com, then It is fake

I got an email about the yahoo lottery promotion, is it true?
This is a SCAM. Check out the below link for confirmation of various email scams hitting the internet including the famous Yahoo/MSN lottery scams and how to report them:

http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/lo...

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/or...

Unscrupulous thieves have sent you this email and they are trying to part you from your hard earned cash. They will often ask you to call a premium rate number and keep you holding on whilst you rack up a huge phone bill. They are then paid a large proportion of this phone bill. They may ask you to divulge personal information about yourself or ask for your bank or credit card details. Do not divulge any such information under any circumstances. It is surprising how many innocent victims have been duped by these types of emails. Just remember the thieves who send them are very clever and extremely convincing. I suggest you delete the email and send it into cyberspace, hopefully along with the thieving scumbags who send them.

Reply:NO! It is a phishing scam
Reply:Actully I don't know exactly but I think it's not true,...?!
Reply:i recive evey day 3 or 4 email like this

it is cheating

if you want to belive that look at the header of the email to the ( TO : ) you willnot see you email it is either empty or to the same sender
Reply:I'm sorry to tell you that the e-mail you received is a scam. The message sounds too good to be true because it is. There is no such thing as the Yahoo! Lottery. The same goes for MSN, Toyota, AOL, Coca-Cola, et cetera. None of these companies are giving away money to random Internet users.

Rather, scammers are collecting e-mail addresses from all over the Internet and bombarding them with these fake e-mails. If you reply to this scam e-mail, the con artist will soon ask you for money. There are many excuses for why the scammer wants money, but they're all lies.

Many scammers will tell you that you need to wire them money to cover "courier fees." When you do this, the scammer will come back soon to ask for more money. This will continue until you are either broke or wise to the scam. Either way, you have lost your money - and there will not be a lottery prize to collect at the end of this mess, either.

Some scammers will even go so far as to provide you with documents as "proof" that they are trustworthy. You might receive a scanned copy of a passport as identification. This is either fake or stolen. Seeing an ID proves nothing. And anybody with MS Paint and five minutes of free time can forge confirmation papers, lists of winners, or other such documents to convince victims that the lottery winnings are real. The scammers will try to make their cons look as genuine as possible so as to extract your money from you.

You can confirm that you've received a scam e-mail by doing one or more of these things:

* Open the company's official Web site in a fresh browser window. Yahoo!, MSN, et cetera will not have any information on their Web sites about their lottery drawings or giveaways. This is because these companies are not really giving away money. At the most, you might find a fraud warning on these official Web sites. This is an excellent indication that you're being scammed, as companies that *are* giving away money will promote this fact all over the place.

* Copy part of the e-mail and paste that into a search engine. Many known scam e-mails are collected and published at various anti-scam Web sites. These pages are there to help spread the word about these scams so that fewer people will fall for them. Use these free tools to your advantage: search parts of any suspicious e-mail you receive before you reply.

* Contact your local law-enforcement department. More often than not, somebody there is familiar enough with this widespread scam to confirm that it is not real.

You should delete the scam e-mail and forget about it. If you have not actually lost money to the scammer, you do not have a case for law enforcement to investigate. They're busy trying to catch the scammers who have stolen from actual victims. Reporting the scammer's e-mail account to the provider to have the box closed might seem like a good idea, but this can ruin an active law-enforcement investigation.

You can also warn people you know about these scams. The more people we all tell, the fewer potential victims these low-life scammers will have.

Is Yahoo! been fair to me?My simple question was deleted twice.?
I honestly wouldn't lose too much sleep over the violation notices. I have received a number of violation notices for trivia things, and although I appeal most, it isn't worth the aggrevation to yourself to pursue beyond that. The real problem lies with the people who have appointed themselves judge and jury. There is an element on this site which seemingly takes pleasure in reporting anything they don't like, whether it is a true violation or not. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this forum, there is no way around the unfair violations except to appeal when you can. The rest of the time, live and let live. You can't control how other users respond to your questions or answers. I just do my thing and don't worry about it anymore.
Reply:Perhaps the first time it was reported as one violation, and the second time it was reported as a different kind of violation.

Although I can't figure out what either violation would be.
Reply:at least you got a response from YA....i demand an explanation for each of my many many violations but never had i gotten a letter from Carmen. Good for you
Reply:well who knows with the communist gestapo censors. say and post exactly what they want to see, or be permantly removed like mark w was. you don't see him or most of his contacts anymore do you?? they got booted for pointing out that a christian fundamentalist was a bigotted racist. boom they're gone. he's a pal fr.360, and many like minded contacts also got removed. on the grounds their posts were not questions or answers. isn't the word yes an answer to a question. see you would have said yes. tread carefully, the supremists control everything.
Reply:Maby not, if it happens, change your password.

Yahoo Lottery Draw of the year 2006. is real?
Yet another scam. When will people ever wise up to this nonsense.

If it seems too good to be true, it's a scam.
Reply:This is an ongoing scam that's been around for ages in various forms. Some come from England and state you won in an email drawing, others originate here. They prey on people that believe they can win major bucks without entering a sweepstakes. There are other scams originating in Nigeria. Some banking official (ha ha) is in charge of millions of dollars left in the bank after someones death. There are no relatives. Will you say you are the next of kin for 40% of the money? Don't fall for any of it!!!
Reply:you get nothing for nothing
Reply:Yes it is real! Give those people all of your banking information, your social security number and any other information or money that tehy require so you can get your prize money! DO IT NOW !

Oh , and one more thing, your question is WAY TOO LONG !!
Reply:This is a genuine e-mail,when you claim your prize,I've got some magic beans I can sell you.
Reply:it's quite obviously fake.
Reply:It's a scam - there are a lot of reports of this at the moment. If you really are unsure, contact Yahoo - mail@cc.yahoo-inc.com to confirm this.
Reply:of course its not real.

Why does Yahoo cooperate with the Chinese dovernment in stifle dissent?

Yahoo helped Chinese to prosecute journalist

By Joseph Kahn The New York Times

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2005

BEIJING The Internet giant Yahoo provided information that helped Chinese state security officials convict a Chinese journalist for leaking state secrets to a foreign Web site, court documents show.

The journalist, Shi Tao, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in June for sending an anonymous posting to a New York-based, Chinese-language Web site that authorities said contained state secrets. His posting summarized a communication from Communist Party authorities to media outlets around the country.

Shi's case has become a prominent symbol of the recent tightening of media controls in the one-party state, where authorities often punish outspoken journalists for leaking information deemed secret.

Yahoo provided records showing that Shi used a computer at his workplace, Contemporary Business News, in Changsha, late in the evening of April 20, 2004, to access his Yahoo e-mail account. Authorities say the offending e-mail was sent to the New York Web site from that e-mail account around that time, according to people involved in Shi's defense.

Yahoo's role in the prosecution of Shi was revealed in July by Boxun, a Web site run by overseas Chinese, and was repeated on Tuesday by Reporters Without Borders, a media watchdog group. Yahoo declined to comment on the matter Wednesday.

Yahoo, Microsoft, Google, Cisco and other major Internet service and equipment providers have come under scrutiny for helping China to monitor and censor content available to China's 100 million Internet users.

Chinese Internet experts say Google and Yahoo routinely exclude sensitive political or religious information from searches conducted by users in mainland China. Microsoft's MSN has come under attack for restricting the content of Web logs, or blogs, it hosts in China.

The companies have often said that they must abide by laws and regulations of countries where they operate.

Chinese journalists say the information that Shi, a 37-year-old journalist and democracy advocate, provided to the New York Web site, called Democracy Forum, was widely circulated at the time.

The information involved routine instructions on how officials were to safeguard social stability during the 15th anniversary of the June 4, 1989, democracy movement.

Shi's case alarmed critics of the Chinese government because his posting did not reveal the sender or the source of the information. That meant the authorities had no more to go on when they began their investigation than an anonymous posting on a U.S.-based Web site.

Using investigative techniques that were not revealed during Shi's trial, Beijing state security officials pinpointed the Chinese source of the e-mail to Democracy Forum that contained the information, according to the people involved in Shi's defense. The people asked to remain anonymous because evidence introduced in Shi's trial was declared secret.

How investigators obtained that information - either by gaining access to the computers at Democracy Forum in New York, or by retroactively searching the content of e-mails that passed through China's Internet servers - was presented to judges in a secret addendum to the prosecution's evidence. Shi's defense lawyers did not have access to that evidence, the people said.

Yahoo's role remains murky, in part because the company has declined to provide any information about its cooperation with Beijing authorities.

It is unclear whether the company responded voluntarily to a request from Beijing state security, or provided data only when confronted with a court order.

Whether the information that Yahoo provided proved critical in identifying Shi, or merely supplementary to the case, also remains unclear. This is because it is not known whether the initial intelligence the Beijing authorities gathered identified Shi personally, or merely the Internet access point, or IP address, where the e-mail to Democracy Forum originated.

If authorities could trace the e-mail only as far as an IP address or to a Yahoo e-mail account, then it is possible that Yahoo's help proved crucial in linking the e-mail to Shi. This is true because Contemporary Business News of Changsha, Shi's employer, had only one IP address shared by many employees, the court documents show.

But people involved in Shi's defense said Yahoo might have played a less pivotal role, providing supplementary evidence to demonstrate how and when Shi transmitted the information after authorities had already identified Shi as the culprit.

Critics say, however, that Yahoo crossed a line by helping authorities prosecute the journalist, even if the company merely responded to a court order.
