Subject: Yahoo! Warning! Verify Your Account Now To Avoid It Closed ( VX2G99AAJ )?

I received the following email today. I believe it is fraud. If so, it would also pose a security risk. It looks to me like a scam. Can you please inform me whether this is a legitimate email from Yahoo! or a scam?

Many Thanks,

Charlie Delgado

Yahoo will be giving this car away as part of a Labor Day Yahoo! Mobile Customer Ride Sweepstakes. The promotion, which runs from September 2, thru September 30th, can be entered via cell phone (if you are 16 years or older). The promotion is supposed to bring attention to Yahoo products and services like news, sports, e-mail, instant messenger, games, the weather and others available through major wireless carriers, including Verizon.

During this time the car will be on display at the Santa Monica Pier here in California. In addition to the work Hot Rods %26amp; Custom Stuff has done, Yahoo will be adding the following goodies: a Kenwood stereo, a DVD navigation system, a seven-inch touch-screen DVD receiver, a Verizon cellular phone (Verizon is the wireless sponsor for this promo), a Sony Playstation with wireless remote consoles, and, last but not least, ,an i-Pod hookup. So don't wait. Run to the Santa Monica Pier and see this car for yourself and enter the contest.

This is a SCAM. Check out the below link for confirmation of various scams, including the famous Yahoo/MSN lottery scams and how to report them.

Reply:Do not give out the information they are asking you for. What they are doing is trying to phish you to steal your account away from you. Yahoo! already has all of that information on file. You need to report it so they can do an investigation. Here is the link you need to use.

Reply:Definitely a SCAM. Yahoo or any large company NEVER asks personal information in this manner. They are trying to bait you with a promotion or sweep stake like drawing to get your personal info. If you give them the info above they will steal your identify, not only on Yahoo but maybe your personal stuff too.
Reply:Yes, this is fraud, and it's called spoofing or phishing. What they want is for you to answer them, then they'll ask you to confirm your logon id and password. Once you've given them that, your account is taken over. You can report this to Yahoo by forwarding the email to: mail-spoof@cc.yahoo-inc.com.

If you have already been tricked into giving your password, please visit

Reply:Just by opening such an email -- you are confirming that you HAVE an active account !! And, when you ANSWER an email such as this -- they have info on you that is worth a mountain of data to anyone that they would choose to outlet it to !! Stay COMPLETELY AWAY from such stuff --- it is Fraudulent and it is meant to do you harm !!!
Reply:Yahoo already has a procedure in place for dealing with inactive accounts (those not accessed within a 4-month period). They would have absolutely no reason for sending out such a nonsense email.
Reply:Yahoo will never ask such personal info, it's a phishing e-mail... do not reply:

Reply:It's a scam. Don't fall for it.
