Yahoo Messenger 8 Unsafe??

I just found this on IWebRadio.com:

NOTE: Users of Yahoo Messenger 8! A virus or code has been inserted into the Yahoo Messenger Beta 8 program. Looks like Yahoo must have hired a former AOL Programmer. It will send a message to the people in your buddy list from you sending them to a website on Geocities UK to view some "Drunk Pics" This site is a Phishing site designed to look like a Yahoo Page and will as them to login with their Yahoo Name and Password. It will also add this code to their installed versions of Yahoo Messenger. We recommend you change your password, uninstall Ver 8 and install the last version of Yahoo Messenger 7.5! You can download it from www.oldversion.com We have no way of knowing how long Yahoo will take to fix this so we suggest you DONT update to the latest version until it IS declared safe!

Any idea if there is any truth in this as it has got me worried about version 8! Thanks.

Nathon.

Yahoo Messenger 8 Unsafe??
No. This is entirely untrue. There have been some problems with v8 Beta ... I think especially when upgrading from v7.5.

There are some spam/phishing messages currently making rounds which send links to undesirable websites but nothing in the actual program itself.

The only likely justification for any truth in this is that one of the many plugins which can be installed as extras to v8 is the culprit. Yahoo released the SDK for creating plugins and anybody may do this but only the ones with the Y! logo can be supported by Yahoo.
Reply:Using the Internet is 'dangerous' of course (in terms of all the undesirable stuff out there). I have always had up to date anti-virus, firewall and anti-spyware installed and I've never yet had any serious problem with chat/messenger software (I don't use chat rooms very much at all, though!) Report It

Reply:i'm having this prob... hope it gets solved by installing yahoo messenger 7.5 Report It

Reply:i am not using it. anyways thanks for the information.
Reply:Thanks for the heads up,, I have not had a problem as of yet,, hope its not true but I will tell all my friends that this may occur

again thanks
Reply:All instant messaging software is inherently unsafe due to its design. I make a good living removing viruses and malware from computers owned by adults and used by their kids for online chatting.
